A Fantastic Series of Wildflower Wanders!

We finished up our 4th ever public trip to Oak Meadows on May 31st, with the previous trip on May 17th. Everyone got to witness a wide variety of native wildflowers on the site.

May 17 Trip, Oak Meadows.

We all saw wildflowers including (common names), Oregon Sunshine, seaspray, blue-eyed grass, lupine, camas, Oregon saxifrage and more. While many of us could identify multiple species of wildflowers, everyone on all four trips worked together to identify something new to us as we covered a 70 acre section of the site. It was a great collaborative effort, and a lot of fun!

The trust will post a few more opportunities over the summer, with a bird focused trip, and another wildflower trip. We’ve been learning since early April that the succession of wildflowers, from those that first appeared, to the ones that replace the earlier blooms as they fade, is pretty fantastic.

Over 50 folks took part in these trips. We kept the group sizes below 20 people to facilitate wildflower wandering. It worked out pretty darn well. Thanks again to everyone. Every time we spend an hour, or a day at Oak Meadows, we just love it even more.
