New Property - Mountain Prairie!

Common madia at Mountain Prairie.

We are excited to announce that the Trust has just received a wonderful 72-acre property we are calling Mountain Prairie! This site near Barton, OR is our second protected place, and was donated. This is a great way to start off our second year of operations as a newish land trust!

The site is replete with wildflowers from Spring into Fall, and is home to an array of wildlife. It is common to see and hear Lazuli buntings, pine siskins, and a range of hawks and sparrows. The property also sees elk, deer, fox and more.

The property was once a mitigation bank, which was specifically designed as a restoration site containing wet prairie. After the bank was done, selling its credits that help to compensate for development elsewhere, it was required to find a permanent steward (the trust), and provided funds for ongoing management. This element fits the land trust model perfectly. To us, this is a gorgeous and ecologically significant site that needed a new owner!

Mountain Prairie also contains multiple mature Oak trees, as well as other native trees and shrubs. Over the next few months the Trust will provide multiple opportunities to visit this site. Stay tuned for more information via our email newsletter, and by checking our Gatherings and Trips page!
